The Histotechnician provides accurate and timely diagnostic information to healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care and customer service. The Histotechnician is responsible for cutting, staining, and preparing tissue samples for review by the pathologist. They are also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing them accurately and promptly.
Education: | Associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a minimum of 12 semester hours (or 18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry, including credit in both. Alternatively, at least 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (or 18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry. |
Experience: | Experience with analytical laboratory equipment, laboratory processing equipment, and hospital and laboratory information systems is preferred but not necessary. |
License(s)/Certification(s): | HT (ASCP) certification or eligibility to take the appropriate registry examination within one year of employment. |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: | Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking). Multicultural sensitivity. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office. Customer/patient focus. Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. |
Other: | Use of standard equipment used to perform essential functions of the position. |
