Association for New Canadians is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to the provision of settlement and integration services for immigrants and refugees.

Job Title: HIPPY Home Visitor

Location: St. John’s, NL

Position Type: 1 part-time position until March 31, 2026 with possibility of extension pending budget availability and satisfactory performance

Closing date: Until filled

Reporting to the HIPPY Coordinator, theHIPPY Home Visitor is responsible to provide home support and necessary training for parents of preschool children. The HIPPY Home Visitor will closely work with mothers and young children with a variety of backgrounds. Hippy Home Visitors must be compassionate individuals and must have the desire to learn and grow as the position evolves.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate weekly home visits to all the participating families
  • Supervise and provide training for parents of preschool children
  • Establish professional relationships with the parents of preschool children
  • Participate in weekly training sessions to grow their knowledge and skill set
  • Follow-up with parents to have regular updates on the well being of their children
  • Participate in weekly development activities with parents and children
  • Plan, recruit, and find a suitable location for family group gatherings or meetings to engage in interactive sessions

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor/Master’s in early childhood education, elementary education or any combination of equivalent experience or education in related fields
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to mentor a diverse population and effectively engage with participants with cultural competency
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities, ensure excellent time-management and detail- oriented skills
  • Ability to share knowledge with participants whose first language is not English is an asset
  • Basic knowledge of Data Entry is an asset
  • Additional Languages such as Arabic, Pashto, Dari, Ukrainian, and others are an asset

Conditions of Employment:

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada
  • Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)
  • Valid class 5 NL driver’s license and daily access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Travel is required
  • Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
