Job summary

Volker Stevin is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator for our Strathmore site. The role reports to the Foreman and focuses on keeping highways safe and functional through skilled operation and proactive maintenance.

Responsibilities include traffic control, incident response, equipment upkeep, and accurate documentation. The position requires a Class 3 or 1 license with air brake endorsement and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather, including night shifts when needed.

Qualifications

• Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and a driving abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions.
• Experience operating and performing minor maintenance on light, medium, and heavy equipment is a plus.
• 50+ hours of snowplow operation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
• Ensure proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events, accidents, and wildlife hazards
• Maintain well-stocked maintenance facilities and complete necessary documentation, including logs, reports, and safety records
• Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high-volume work zones and emergency situations
• Maintain, service, and inspect company equipment, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring proper care and security
• Follow labour laws, company policies, safety regulations, and environmental compliance, while applying QA/QC standards for highway maintenance, road safety, and hazard assessments
• Perform in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
• Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs
