Here at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, we have an exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist in Echocardiography to join our team. You will deliver cardiac and respiratory diagnostics across Calderdale Royal Hospital, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, and the new Community Diagnostic Spoke and Hub in the heart of the Halifax and Huddersfield communities.

Calderdale & Huddersfield is a large District General Hospital with an expanding cardiology diagnostic department invested in developing the future workforce for Cardiac Physiologists/Healthcare Scientists.

The post holder will work as a key member of the Cardio-Respiratory Service, carrying out various diagnostic procedures in different healthcare settings.

Main duties of the job
  • Perform and report adult transthoracic echocardiograms on inpatients and outpatients across the Trust.
  • Provide training and support to clinical physiologists and Specialty Doctors.
  • Supervise and support reporting activities, providing feedback to all trainees including unaccredited physiologists and Specialty Doctors.
  • Work with Cardiology Consultants and Registrars performing Stress Echocardiography, Transoesophageal Echocardiography, and Contrast Studies.
  • Collaborate with the Team Lead to maximize clinic capacity, monitoring and auditing IP/OP requirements.
  • Support Oncology Trial teams with clinical and technical cardiac monitoring for trial participants, in partnership with Oncology Research leads.
  • Participate in departmental audits as required by Clinical Leads.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Perform and report transthoracic echo to BSE standards.
  • Assist with Dobutamine Stress Echo, Transoesophageal Echo, 3D, and Contrast Studies as required.
  • Work across all Trust sites as needed.
  • Provide Immediate Life Support within the department and Trust premises.
  • Maintain and safety-check all equipment, reporting issues per protocols.
  • Follow departmental, Trust, and national guidelines.
  • Use manual handling skills for patients and equipment.
  • Recognize and respond to significant abnormalities.
  • Prioritize own workload and supervise junior staff.
  • Consult with medical colleagues regarding patient reviews.
  • Train and develop student physiologists, specialty doctors, and trainees.
  • Carry out and produce factual reports on Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography, Advanced Echocardiography, and Routine ECG without supervision.
