Job summary

Chemco is seeking experienced High Voltage Technicians to support substations, utilities, industrial and high voltage projects across Western Canada. This hands-on role requires testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair on medium- to high-voltage electrical systems, with strong documentation and communication.

The ideal candidate will have 5–10 years of HV experience, read electrical drawings, and be comfortable traveling.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of HV installations, testing, commissioning, or related field work.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical docs.
  • Experience with HV test equipment such as Omicron, TTR, Doble M4000.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

Chemco is seeking experienced High Voltage Technicians to support substation, utility, industrial, and high voltage projects across Western Canada. This is a hands‑on technical field role for someone who can perform testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair work on medium- and high‑voltage electrical systems. The successful candidate will be safety‑focused, detail‑oriented, comfortable working independently, and able to support field execution while maintaining quality documentation and strong communication with project teams.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on medium- and high‑voltage electrical systems.
  • Work on transmission, distribution, primary power, and secondary power equipment.
  • Test and commission equipment such as transformer protection relays, generator protection relays, motor protection relays, transformers, motors, generators, instrument transformers, cables, terminations, and main‑tie‑main transfer schemes.
  • Use and interpret results from testing equipment including Omicron, TTR, Doble M4000, winding resistance equipment, and CT saturation testing equipment.
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, test sheets, manufacturer documentation, and project specifications.
  • Operate and maintain test equipment, tools, vehicles, and safety equipment required for field work.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing, commissioning activities, deficiencies, repairs, and completed work.
  • Prepare required documentation, work plans, operating descriptions, reports, and project paperwork.
  • Support construction, commissioning, planning, coordination meetings, and field reviews as required.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and comply with Chemco, client, regulatory, and site‑specific safety requirements.
  • Travel to project sites across Western Canada as needed.
What We’re Looking For
  • Engineering Technologist diploma or related technical education is preferred.
  • Five to ten years of experience with medium- and high‑voltage installations, testing, commissioning, maintenance, or related field work.
  • Strong knowledge of power electrical systems, protection systems, testing practices, and field troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, test sheets, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using high‑voltage testing equipment such as Omicron, TTR, Doble M4000, winding resistance equipment, and CT saturation testing equipment.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and support project teams in the field.
  • Positive attitude and ability to build effective working relationships with clients, supervision, tradespeople, and other employees.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and awareness of environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel for project work.
  • Previous supervisory, lead‑hand, or field leadership experience is considered an asset.
