Job description

Faculty Position: High School Social Studies Teacher

About us: We are a small school located on Boundary Road in East Vancouver, near the Burnaby Heights neighbourhood. Our school is predominantly international students and has a vision to grow to include a mix of students from around the world and Vancouver. Our school is safe and supportive and aims to provide high-quality education to all of our students.

Contract length:

  • August 25, 2025 – June 26, 2026; moving into a continuing contract, based on performance.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach a combination of Economics, Social Studies 10, Social Studies 11, Indigenous Studies 11, and/or English Language Learner courses.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Prepare classroom and course materials based on BC Ministry requirements
  • Create thoughtful, creative, and meaningful learning experiences and assessments for students
  • Explicitly teacher core competencies with the BC curriculum framework
  • Demonstrate mastery in classroom instructional practices
  • Provide regular feedback to students on their learning and report progress at regular intervals
  • Remain current in educational and pedagogical research and teaching methods for teaching Social Studies and English language learners
  • Create a supportive and positive classroom environment
  • Maintain records of student attendance and grades
  • Collaborate with other teachers to provide a positive learning experience to students
  • Plan field experiences for students and take students outside of the classroom by providing experiential learning.
Requirements and skills:
  • Valid and current BC Teaching certificate , with preference given to Professional A certificate holders; subject-restricted teachers should have Social studies/Humanities and English Language Arts OR ELL, ideally with other teachable subjects
  • Previous experience teaching Economics, Social Studies 10, Social Studies 11, and Indigenous Studies 11 or similar subjects
  • Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Calm and resilient personality
  • Ability to effectively manage a classroom and create a warm and welcoming environment for all learners
  • Preferred: Degree in Education with Social Studies focus
  • Preferred: ESL or TESOL certification
