Job description

The Pukatawagan Education Authority invites applications for the 2024-2025 school year for the following position: High School Science Teacher.

About Pukatawagan:

Pukatawagan is a community of the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, located in northern Manitoba near the Saskatchewan border (North-East of Flin Flon, South of Lynn Lake, West of Thompson). It is an area of beautiful lakes, rivers, and forests. Sakastew School is a K-12 school.

Pukatawagan is situated on the Churchill River, also known as the Missinippi River. The population is over 3,000, both on and off reserve. The community offers subsidized rental, sign-on bonus, moving and travel allowances, professional development, health plan, and benefits. Recreational activities include hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, and snowmobiling, which are integral to local culture.

Access to Pukatawagan is available by train or plane from The Pas. During winter, a winter road is operational. The community has a store, Roman Catholic church, nursing station, and other facilities operated by the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation. Satellite internet has been upgraded to Starlink, and cell reception can be accessed via this system.

Salaries are paid biweekly via direct deposit.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass background checks, including criminal and child abuse registry.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal students is an asset.
  • Graduate or Postgraduate credentials in School Administration are assets.
  • Experience in educational leadership within a First Nations setting is an asset.
  • Ability to speak Cree is an asset.
  • Applicants must provide two current references.
