Reporting to the Health and Fitness Programs Manager, the Programs Specialist (Adult Programs) provides leadership in executing group fitness, recreational sports, and individual conditioning activities, including volunteer development. The role focuses on delivering a superior member experience aligned with health and wellness goals, increasing membership engagement, retention, satisfaction, and philanthropic contributions. The specialist demonstrates leadership, coaching, and relationship-building skills.

In this role, you will:
  1. Lead various program areas, including fitness classes and recreational sports, for 80% of scheduled shifts.
  2. Conduct personal training, mY Fitness, Youth mY Fitness, and support members in achieving fitness goals.
  3. Manage relationships with new members through a case management approach and create paperless programs.
  4. Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs to attract and retain diverse members.
  5. Lead YMCA Trainer in Fitness, deliver YMCA Fitness Leader Certification, and support YMCA training programs.
  6. Lead and coach staff and volunteers, build relationships, and ensure program excellence.
  7. Support staff and volunteers in achieving performance standards related to fitness, retention, and standards.
  8. Participate as a member of the senior staff team, acting as an effective Service Leader and engaging in strategic initiatives.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
You bring:
  • Diploma or Degree in Recreation Leadership, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field.
  • YMCA certification in Group Fitness or related certifications.
  • Personal Trainer Certification (e.g., CPTN, ACE); Certified Fitness Consultant (CFC).
  • Proficiency in Yoga and Pilates is an asset.
  • YMCA Trainer certification; YMCA Trainer Educator preferred.
  • Experience leading recreational sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, water polo.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification; AED training is an asset.
  • Leadership skills with coaching and supervision experience; ability to motivate staff and volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; excellent communication skills.

  • Flexibility in working hours, including days, evenings, and weekends.
