Alberta Precision Laboratories is seeking a Hematopathologist for full-time medical reporting and consultation in Edmonton. The position involves collaboration with clinicians and oversight of technical processes. Ideal candidates will possess an MD, licensure eligibility in Alberta, and relevant certifications. Extensive experience in quality assurance and effective communication is essential.
Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) North Sector, in partnership with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, in Edmonton, Alberta, is seeking a qualified full-time Hematopathologist. Experience and/or interest in Flow Cytometry oversight would be an asset. The successful applicant may also be considered for appointment with the University of Alberta’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.
The Department of Lab Medicine & Pathology, with over 100 pathologists, functions as a Center of Excellence, supported by state-of-the-art ancillary testing capabilities including immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular pathology. APL North Sector offers a full range of clinical services, including two level I trauma centers, solid organ transplantation, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care units (Level 1-3), hematology-oncology, and cardiovascular surgery services.

Job Summary & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide medical reporting, consultation on hematopathology issues on clinical services, and collaborate closely with clinicians in hematology, oncology, transplantation, neurology, obstetrics, critical care, cardiothoracic, and trauma surgery. Responsibilities include medical oversight of technical and regulatory processes, quality assurance, and incident management. The role involves maintaining high standards of practice and providing education to colleagues, allied health professionals, and trainees at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. The position may involve interaction with various APL laboratory sites within Edmonton and Northern Alberta.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an MD, eligibility for licensure in Alberta, with certification in Hematological Pathology or in Anatomic/Clinical/General Pathology with Hematopathology fellowship recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Pathology, or equivalent recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Candidates should demonstrate collegiality, collaborative practice, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced hospital laboratory environment. Essential skills include effective communication, experience in quality assurance, operational efficiency, and appropriate patient care. Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment, balance service and quality, and work collaboratively within a team are required.
