Job description

Horizon Health Network is seeking a Hematopathologist to join our collegial and collaborative team in beautiful Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.

If you are American Board Certified, the licensure process is very straightforward with no additional exams!

This new role will be part of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, which includes a team of 10 pathologists, 1 microbiologist, and 1 chemist. This new full-time position will establish a dedicated hematopathology service, transitioning from the current rotational model managed by multiple pathologists to a permanent, specialized role. Regional hematopathology support is available from our teams in Saint John and Moncton, both of which have established hematopathologists who can provide consultative and collaborative support when needed.

Incentives & Remuneration

Remuneration for the position is based on New Brunswick Medicare’s Alternate Funding Plan (AFP), with a range of $378,000 - $416,000.

Successful applicants may be eligible to receive the following:

  • Urban recruitment incentive of $50,000.00 with a 2-year return of service.
  • Moving expense reimbursement is also available.

What you will do

The physician will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, adhere to evidence-based practices aligned with Horizon Health Network’s mission. Protected research time is available for qualified candidates.

  • Provide onsite medical reporting and consultation on peripheral blood morphology, bone marrow morphology, coagulation and flow cytometry and transfusion medicine.
  • Clinical duties include medical oversight for technologists, regulatory issues, quality assurance, hemovigilance and occurrence management.
  • Participate in the after-hours on-call rota.
  • Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
  • Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
  • Participate in the education of technologists, medical students, and residents.

(Note:These responsibilities are the basic and prime duties associated with this position; other related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of Horizon Health Network.)

Who you are

  • Hematopathology certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or acceptable equivalent. Alternatively, applicants may hold RCPSC certification in either General Pathology/Diagnostic and Clinical Pathology or Anatomical Pathology/Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology (or acceptable equivalent) with additional fellowship training in Hematopathology.
  • Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
  • Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) appropriate to the category of practice or equivalent.

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and across regional sites
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous improvement, quality assurance, and innovation in laboratory medicine
