Heavy Equipment Technician
The Heavy Equipment Technician will work in a fast-paced environment where you will be diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and restoring class 7/8 heavy trucks Kenworth trucks. Reporting to the Shop Foreman and Service Manager, this role offers challenges as you’ll have a chance to work with the latest technology, giving you an opportunity to showcase your skills and experience. If you are an independent problem-solver with a passion for the industry, we want you to be a valuable member of the GreatWest Kenworth team.
Your day to day will include:
Conduct Maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all cals 7/8 heavytruck systems.
Interpret work orders and technical manuals on paper and in PC based formats.
Complete service reports.
Open and close repair orders.
Work scheduled on call shifts to provide repair service for customer trucks that require repairs after normal business hours $200+/ week for being on call plus overtime.
Attending additional training, online, provincially, nationally and in the US as required.
Maintain personal and company equipment.
Communicate with teams (service writer, service administrator, lead hand, foreman, service manager, service director) when managing their job duties and solving problems.
Key Skills and Experience Requirements:
Apprentice HET or Truck Transport Mechanic (3rd year to Journeyperson)
Paccar MX Engine experience an asset
Kenworth Cab and Chassis electronics experience an asset
Peterbilt experience an asset
Cummins experience an asset
Eaton Transmission and Dana/Spicer experience an asset
Air Brake training an asset
Familiar with software diagnostics such as Davie 4, Cummins Insite, ESA, BENDIX, Service Ranger or equivalent
Other Related Skills:
Be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend to ensure effective communication with employees and customers.
General computer and software diagnostics skills.
The ability to withstand work-related deadlines and pressures.
Must be able to sit, kneel, lift, walk, lay, and carry for extended periods.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. (Class 1, 3, or 5 without previous suspensions)
Must be able to travel to the US for additional technical training
