Job summary

HLD Muskoka is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team on high-end residential and civil projects in Muskoka. You will operate various machinery with care, contribute to precise site execution, and uphold strict safety on busy job sites.

The role requires 5 years of heavy equipment experience and an ability to read site plans. You’ll collaborate with the Civil Superintendent and maintenance crews, while maintaining a professional presence on luxury sites across Muskoka.

Qualifications

• 5 years experience running heavy equipment is required.
• 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction or high-end residential projects.
• Ability to read and interpret site plans and topographical drawings.
• Valid Ontario Class G driver's license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of small & heavy equipment for mass excavation, rock placement, fine grading, and trenching.
• Execute excavation and grading site plans with minimal staking.
• Maintain equipment, materials, and site in a safe, clean condition; dispose of scrap as needed.
• Coordinate with the Civil Superintendent to plan and sequence work while maintaining safety standards.
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for operating a variety of small & heavy equipment: backhoe, excavators, loaders, bulldozer, front end loader, skid steer, roller, etc. for mass excavation, rock placement, fine grading, and utility trenching.

Execute excavation and grading site plans with minimal staking.

• Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner. Collect and dispose of scrap, excess materials, and refuse
• Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored
• Advise the mechanics of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
• Participate in routine maintenance
• Maintain a professional, discreet presence on high-end residential job sites, ensuring cleanliness and respect for client properties.
• Collaborate with the Civil Superintendent to plan and sequence work efficiently while upholding strict safety standards, including all ground disturbance protocols.
• Perform a variety of tasks which include: shoveling, pipe laying, fine grading and finishing, landscaping, sloping and banking, backfilling, ditching, excavation, rough grading, stumping, sub-grade excavating, trenching, material handling and slope grooming

THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED

• Work exceptionally within a team

• Operate heavy equipment safely and to minimize the risk of injury or property damage
• Knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of pieces of heavy equipment efficiently and with precision
• Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques
• Ability to read and write to complete and maintain daily operating and safety records
• Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
• Strong verbal and listening skills
• ability to identify and prevent equipment issues proactively.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

• 5 years experience running heavy equipment required
• 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction or high-end residential projects.
• Ability to read and interpret site plans and Topographical drawings
• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract
