The Opportunity

Vale and Thiess have partnered on the Stobie Open Pit Mining Project. This is a three-year, full-service joint venture located in the city of Greater Sudbury, Ontario. Last mined in 2017, the Stobie property is ramping back up in response to the world’s increasing demand for critical minerals, and social and economic benefits for the local communities.

We are currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Stobie Open Pit Mining Project team in Sudbury. Relocation will be required for this role.

This is a permanent position, working on a rotation schedule (7 days on/7 days off; 12-hour shifts; days and nights).

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will provide a full range of services while working within an open pit environment, following established work procedures and company policies to ensure efficient operations within a safety conscious environment.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Operate mobile equipment such as excavator, shovel and production loader.
  • Follow all established policies, procedures, and best practices as well as industry specific regulations.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with peers and supervisor to achieve the objectives of the plant in a safe and professional manner.

About You

Education:

  • Grade 10 completed is required.
  • Surface Common Core (770210)

Experience:

  • 3-5 years' experience operating excavator, shovel and production loader.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Mining or heavy industrial construction experience considered an asset.

Skills:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be obsessed with safety and risk.
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
