Job summary

Scott’s Haulage in Ontario is seeking a Safety‑focused Heavy Equipment Operator to support aggregate, pit, yard, hauling, and civil construction operations.

You will safely operate heavy equipment to move, load, place, screen, stockpile, and assist in material handling, working in pits, yards, and on site with trucks and contractors. This role suits candidates with experience in aggregates and construction and requires strong safety practices.

Qualifications

  • Previous heavy equipment operation experience is required.
  • Experience in aggregate, pit, quarry, construction, excavation, grading, crushing, screening, loading, or civil site work is a plus.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment in pits, yards, and varying weather/site conditions.
  • Must be able to complete inspections, forms, tickets, and paperwork accurately.
  • Valid driver’s license is preferred; driver’s abstracts may be reviewed.

Role Details

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
Location: Trenton, Ontario, Canada and surrounding work areas
Company: Dave Scott Haulage & Excavating Limited
Shift/Hours: Monday – Friday, full-time. 7am to 5pm. Hours may vary based on operational needs, weather, customer requirements, project schedules, and seasonal workload. Additional hours may be required.
Compensation Range: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour
Start Date: As soon as possible

About This Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to support aggregate, pit, yard, hauling, customer delivery, and civil construction operations.

This role is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment to move, load, place, screen, stockpile, process, and support the handling of aggregate and other materials. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a pit and yard environment, around trucks, equipment, customers, contractors, and changing site conditions.

This role is well suited for someone with experience in aggregate, construction, excavation, loading, screening, crushing, site work, or similar heavy equipment environments.

Responsibilities:

Equipment Operation & Aggregate Support:

  • Safely operate heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, dozers, skid steers, packers, rollers, screeners, crushers, or other equipment as assigned and authorized
  • Load trucks, stockpile materials, move aggregate, place materials, and support pit, yard, customer, and site operations
  • Support aggregate production, processing, screening, crushing, loading, hauling, and material handling activities as required
  • Assist with maintaining organized stockpiles, pit areas, yard areas, access routes, loading areas, and material storage areas
  • Follow supervisor direction, site rules, traffic plans, equipment procedures, and company safety requirements
  • Work safely around trucks, drivers, pedestrians, customers, contractors, other equipment, and changing site conditions

Inspections, Maintenance & Documentation:

  • Complete required pre-use inspections, circle checks, post-use inspections, equipment checks, and related documentation
  • Report equipment defects, maintenance concerns, hazards, incidents, property damage, spills, or near misses promptly
  • Perform basic equipment care as assigned, including cleaning, fuelling, greasing, fluid checks, and general housekeeping
  • Complete required paperwork, including inspection forms, time records, tickets, production records, fuel records, and other company documentation
  • Maintain assigned equipment in a clean, organized, and safe operating condition
  • Communicate equipment, production, material, customer, or site concerns to supervisors promptly

Site, Yard & Civil Support:

  • Assist with general pit, yard, shop, fleet, aggregate, customer, or civil construction site duties when assigned and safe to do so
  • Support loading/unloading activities, material placement, grading, clean-up, site preparation, and restoration work as required
  • Operate company vehicles as required for site support, inspections, deliveries, or other work-related duties
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, training, orientations, and incident investigations as required
  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with employees, customers, contractors, and the public

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous heavy equipment operation experience is required
  • Previous aggregate, pit, quarry, construction, excavation, grading, crushing, screening, loading, or civil site experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to safely operate assigned equipment in pits, yards, customer locations, civil construction sites, and changing weather/site conditions
  • Ability to complete required inspections, forms, tickets, logs, and paperwork accurately
  • Valid driver’s licence in good standing is preferred
  • Where driving is, or may become, part of the Employee’s duties, the Employee must maintain a valid driver’s licence in good standing and provide an acceptable driver’s abstract that meets company and insurance requirements
  • The company may obtain and review the employee’s driver’s abstract every three months, or as otherwise required
  • Reliable, punctual, safety-focused, and able to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Physically able to climb in and out of equipment, inspect equipment, perform basic equipment care, and work outdoors
  • Must comply with company health and safety requirements and be fit for duty while operating equipment, driving, or performing work
