Job summary

Barnhart in Grande Prairie is seeking a Journeyman or 3rd Year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our maintenance team. You’ll work on a specialized fleet of cranes, trailers, and support equipment, performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs to keep machines safe and job-ready. Some travel to Fort St.

John, BC may be required. You’ll handle electrical, hydraulic, suspension, and air brake systems, with emphasis on reliability and safety in a tight-knit shop environment.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification or 3rd year apprenticeship required.
• Experience with heavy equipment or cranes preferred.
• Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to work locally.

Responsibilities

• Working Monday to Friday, with mostly 8–9 hour days.
• Performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on cranes, trailers, and support equipment.
• Completing oil changes, brake work, tire service, suspension repairs, and annual PMs.
• Supporting annual crane certification requirements.
• Recording hours, mileage, and maintenance activities using logbooks and a tablet.
• Collaborating with crane operators to identify issues early and keep equipment operational.
