Description

Summit Air is hiring for a full-time, permanent Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join the team. In this position, you will report to the Maintenance Production Supervisor and be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of industrial aircraft ground service equipment within the facility/hangar.

This role involves interpreting work orders and technical manuals, keeping equipment cleaned, lubricated, and maintained, diagnosing faults or malfunctions, and making necessary repairs in a timely manner.

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will also supervise the work of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic Apprentice.

You will collaborate with various departments to create effective maintenance plans while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Proactively maintain, repair, and overhaul aircraft ground support equipment safely and efficiently
  • Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on scheduled and immediate needs
  • Maintain tools and support equipment in safe, operational condition and keep the work environment clean
  • Manage and repair facilities safely, conduct inspections, and recommend improvements
  • Develop and supervise the Heavy Equipment Mechanic Apprentice during their training
  • Update and manage the Equipment Status Report and service intervals to ensure proper maintenance
  • Coordinate with vendors, secure favorable pricing, and initiate purchase orders

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or similar role
  • Experience with aviation ground support equipment is an asset
  • Heavy Duty Mechanic Journeyman certification or equivalent preferred
  • Fabrication experience
  • Proficiency with maintenance practices and work order systems
  • Strong mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook
