Job summary

Toromont Cat is seeking an Applications Specialist to join our team in Vaughan, Canada. This role blends technical heavy equipment knowledge with delivering customer-focused solutions. You will analyze applications, support field teams, and contribute to a safe, high-performing operation.

You will collaborate with Caterpillar products, participate in dealer advisory groups, and help develop training curricula while delivering strong value to customers across Eastern Canada.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with minimum 5 years in a customer-facing role.
  • Strong safety awareness and hands-on experience around heavy equipment.
  • Solid technical aptitude with a good understanding of heavy equipment applications.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills across all levels.

Toromont Cat is looking for an Applications Specialist to join our team!

Pay Type

Full Time, Permanent

Compensation

$69,520.00 – 86,900.00

The listed base salary is just one component of our total rewards package, and performance-based or discretionary bonuses may be available.

In a typical day, YOU will:
  • Thorough knowledge of heavy equipment & customer site applications
  • Machine specifications relating to customer site specific applications
  • Answer questions from field related to specifications and applications
  • Participate in relevant Caterpillar Dealer Advisory Groups (DAG’s)
  • Sales Training (selection of DPC, development of custom training curriculum)
  • Gathering, analyzing & communicating intelligence on products, market conditions, competitors, & customers
  • Forecast input & assist with managing inventory levels
  • Input for stock configurations
  • Guidance & leadership for customer applications
  • Customer seminars & informational sessions upon request
  • Develop a standardized NPI process for all machine families including Annual Product Updates (APU)
  • Communication to all stakeholders
  • Determining which models to market in our territory
  • Work closely with Caterpillar District office on a comprehensive go-to-market strategy for all product families including merchandizing support and key model focus initiatives
  • Analytics: work with Technology Specialist to develop strategies to increase technology usage
  • Trusted advisor - develop solutions with customers related to machine applications
  • Work with Sales to develop a Value selling message – VST
  • Gather, analyze & communicate intelligence on products, market conditions, competitors, & customers
  • Provide leadership direction as it relates to promotion dealer/customer/association events
  • Provide input on pricing strategies
  • PINS achievement
  • Any other duties deemed by Toromont to fall under this job description
Must-haves for this role:
  • Post-Secondary Education with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a customer facing role
  • Highly safety conscious with at least 5 years’ of hands on experience around heavy equipment
  • Strong technical aptitude and solid understanding of heavy equipment applications
  • Customer centric with proven coaching, mentoring and people development skills would be an asset
  • Solid business acumen and a mindset for continuous improvement
  • A strategic thinker with excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Effective communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with all levels
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Applications
