Join Our Team as a Heavy Duty Technician at GFL Environmental in Lloydminster, AB!

The Apprentice Technician position at GFL Environmental will receive on the job training on various tasks such as, performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and will assist with minor repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of company vehicles. This individual will learn how to properly maintain commercial motor vehicles while participating in a provincial trade program and advancing their career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance tasks such as PM inspections, oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, tire rotations, and minor adjustments under supervision of a Licensed Technician.
  • Complete required record keeping associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Conduct vehicle maintenance inspections; identify, record, and report equipment condition.
  • Assist licensed technicians with repairs and projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures.
  • Ensure shop equipment and tools in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Provide own tools and willingness to acquire tools as required for jobs.
  • Currently registered in an apprenticeship program and in good standing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of company fleet assets.
  • Experience using diagnostic software is preferred. Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors.
  • Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Working Conditions

The Apprentice Technician must able to work inside and/or outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat.

Physical Demands

Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling.
  • Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.
  • Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
  • Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
