Job description

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Heavy Duty Mechanic (Haul Truck) to join our Mobile Maintenance team reporting to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor.

Detour Lake is the largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential . The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt.The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit / underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

The Heavy Duty Mechanic (Haul Truck) will be responsible for the proper maintenance and repair, as well as performing preventative maintenance and operational safety inspections on all heavy equipment at the Detour Lake Mine.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Performing regular servicing, preventative maintenance and repairs on all applicable mobile equipment;
  • Use of computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of required repairs;
  • Repairing hydraulic, powertrain and electrical systems;
  • Use of various tools including hydraulic power units, torque wrenches and hoists;
  • Identifying and reporting part requirements and supplies as required;
  • Preparing electronic service reports and documentation in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and efficient work area.

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has :

  • Experience with ultra-class mining equipment : notably 6030, 6060, 7495 Caterpillar shovels, 777, 795 and 798 trucks as well as Epiroc D65, DM-45 and Pit Viper drills;
  • Minimum five years’ related experience in a fast-paced production environment;
  • Ontario Provincial or Inter-Provincial Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certificate is considered an asset;
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED;
  • Computer literate and proven knowledge of CAT ET & SIS Web;
  • Focused and self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills.
