Qualifications

  • Must be a registered Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice (3rd or 4th year).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently or in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair mobile off-road mining equipment including haul trucks and excavators.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and major repairs on various systems.

Job description

About the role:

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentices work alongside Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanics in maintaining our fleet of mining equipment in a shop or field environment. The position is site-based at our operations in the Elk Valley, and the ability to reliably commute to or relocate near Sparwood, B.C is necessary.

Schedule:

4x4 shift schedule consisting of days and nights.

In this role you will:
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Perform duties that range from routine preventative maintenance to repairing major breakdowns, including troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Disassemble and reassemble components such as engines, transmissions, cooling systems, fuel and exhaust systems, brakes, clutches, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems and lubrication systems
  • Provide innovative solutions and best practices
  • Diagnose, maintain and repair mobile off-road mining equipment including haul trucks, graders, bulldozers, excavators, shovels, loaders, and other heavy equipment
  • Work with brands including CAT, Komatsu, P&H, Hitachi, John Deere, Letourneau, Volvo, Marion among others
Requirements:
  • Registered 3rd or 4th year Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Previous mining experience is an asset

Base earnings reflected in salary range includes the hourly wage plus applicable shift premiums and will differ depending on location. It is calculated using a reasonably expected number of hours worked per year.
