The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and performing preventative maintenance servicing on commercial transport trucks. Reviewing work orders and evaluating repairs are also important tasks of the role. HD Mechanics also provide performance evaluations, mentorship, and supervision to HD Mechanical Apprentices.

We are looking for an experienced journeyman that has the flexibility to work an afternoon or evening shift, plus be able to be on call.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Inspect motors in operation, road test Class 3 vehicles, and test automotive systems and components using computerized diagnostic and other testing devices to diagnose and isolate faults.
  2. Diagnose faults or malfunctions on all preventative maintenance services.
  3. Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems including chassis, frame, cab, body, engine and drive train, air brakes, steering, and fuel, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems using other hand tools/equipment.
  4. Review and discuss work orders with supervisors, and sign off repairs performed.
  5. Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune ups.
  6. Operate engines such as International Max Force, Paccar, Cummins, etc.
  7. Work with equipment such as vacuum pumps, hydraulics, and fork loaders.
  8. Perform shift work based on company business needs which evolve and change in response to customer demands.
  9. Work overtime as instructed to ensure minimal downtime of facilities.
  10. Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. Policies.
  11. People development and active management of direct reports.
  12. Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate or an interprovincial Heavy Duty Mechanic Red Seal Certification.
  • Possession of a valid Class 3 Driver’s License with air required.
  • Hold a valid Saskatchewan Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspection License.
  • 3 years of experience in truck repairs or similar environment or industry an asset.
  • Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures.
  • Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance.
  • Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily.
  • Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, cold weather, odours and animal by-products.
