Job description

Reporting to the Trade Supervisor or Equipment & Facilities Manager, the Heavy-Duty Journeyman Mechanics role involves optimizing and maintaining equipment to ensure efficient operations. Key responsibilities include performing basic welding repairs, oxy-acetylene torch cutting, and simple fabrication with supervisor approval. The position requires proficiency in using hand and power tools, operating overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts, and troubleshooting equipment issues to minimize production disruptions.

How You’ll Add Value
  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive environment
  • Repairs, rebuilds, troubleshoots, adjusts, overhauls, and maintains heavy-duty construction equipment
  • Inspects bulldozers, graders, and other heavy machinery to ensure proper performance
  • Detects faults, diagnoses malfunctions using testing equipment, and determines necessary repairs
  • Tests machinery for proper functioning and conduct routine maintenance
  • Services attachments and working tools such as blades and winches
  • Performs repairs and inspections independently while seeking help when required
  • Manages daily workload safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and legal standards
  • Collaborates with operators, foremen, superintendents, and other site personnel for equipment maintenance
  • Communicates identified issues to the supervisor immediately
  • Executes job responsibilities under the leadership of the Trade Supervisor or Equipment & Facilities Manager
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum Grade 10 completion or equivalent formal education consistent with requirements for entry into apprenticeship vocational training
  • Valid Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Certificate of Qualification or an approved equivalent
  • Valid BC Class 5 licence or higher with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Required tools for repairing light and heavy trucks
  • Physical capability to lift 50–100 lbs
  • CVIP Inspection Licence or ability to obtain and perform CVIP inspections
  • Computer experience related to documentation and equipment diagnostic systems
