Job description

Position overview

As a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing mobile/portable equipment. Your tasks include diagnostics, mechanical overhauls, and maintenance on a variety of specialized and heavy-duty equipment such as fire trucks, runway trucks, sweepers, chemical application vehicles, mowers, and trucks with diesel and gas engines with specialized attachments.

You will join a team of technicians, apprentices, and planners that organize, plan, and perform maintenance on an inventory of over 350 pieces of response and heavy equipment designed specifically for the airport environment.

Key responsibilities
  1. Maintaining and repairing emergency rescue and operations vehicles and equipment, including fire trucks, air stairs, emergency response vehicles, foam trailers, and pumps.
  2. Maintaining and repairing summer operations vehicles such as mowers, backhoes, excavators, and road maintenance equipment.
  3. Maintaining and repairing winter operations vehicles for snow and ice control.
  4. Maintaining and repairing specialty equipment and tooling.
  5. Planning, scheduling, and organizing work areas and facilities.
  6. Leading activities and sharing knowledge with apprentices.
Key qualifications
  • At least three years of recent, relevant experience.
  • Red Seal or BC Trade Qualification in Truck or Transport Mechanic (TTM) or Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician (HDET).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proven commitment to safety.
  • Valid BC driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 preferred).
Additional details

The shift schedule is primarily 4/4 dayshift, with 24/7 operations required during winter. Premium pay may apply for shift and weekend work.

Salary Range

$78,654 to $102,802 annually, tailored to experience and qualifications.
