Job summary

A government agency is seeking a heavy-duty equipment mechanic apprentice in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The successful candidate will instruct apprentices, diagnose faults, order parts, and perform repairs. Candidates must possess a secondary education and relevant experience in welding. Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work site environment: Outdoors. Non-smoking. Dusty. Hot. Noisy. Work setting: Various locations. On-site customer service. Tasks: Instruct apprentices. Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required. Order parts and maintain inventory. Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts. Keep maintenance reports and documentation. Welding experience. Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications. Attach components and adjust new farm equipment. Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work. Perform repair work on heavy trucks. Service attachments and working tools. Verify and repair emission control systems. Assist process and machine operators in mineral ore and metal processing. Perform other routine maintenance. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Attention to detail.
