Job summary

Morgan Construction and Environmental Ltd. in Yukon is seeking a Heavy Civil Equipment Operator to drive rock trucks, graders, excavators, and dozers on demanding heavy civil projects.

This project‑based role offers 12‑hour shifts, 14/7 rotations, and lodging for travel, with flights or drive‑in options depending on the site. You must have a minimum of 3 years on heavy equipment (40‑ton Rock Trucks, 773/777/789 Haul Trucks, 14M/24H graders, 336/470 excavators, D6T‑D10 dozers), solid safety

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience operating 40-ton Rock Trucks on heavy civil sites.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience operating haul trucks (773/777/789).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with graders (14M/24H).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with excavators (336/470).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with dozers (D6T/D8/D9/D10).
  • Experience in hard rock mining environments is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Move earth, grade, strip overburden, and stockpile materials.
  • Build roads, pads, culverts, and perform lease-related work.
  • Inspect equipment and maintain safety standards on site.
  • Communicate with supervisors and other operators to ensure smooth operations.
  • Follow Safe Work Procedures and site PPE policies.
  • Perform additional labour tasks as required.

Job description

Location and Schedule
  • Upcoming projects with clients in the Yukon.
  • Rotation: Project dependent, most commonly 14/7.
  • Shift: 12 hours (days and nights).
  • Travel: Project dependent – flights via approved hubs or drive in / drive out.
  • Lodging: Accommodations provided.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Successful completion of Alcohol and Drug Screening.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive Fitness‑to‑Work Assessment covering:
    • Health History Review.
    • Pre‑Medical Evaluation (height, weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation).
    • Musculoskeletal Examination.
    • Critical Strength and Mobility Test (lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs).
  • Worker must provide:
    • Valid safety training tickets (Intermediate First Aid with CPR & AED, Ground Disturbance (HEO)).
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • CSA‑approved safety boots – minimum 6" high & fully laceable.
  • Be physically conditioned to lift up to 50 lbs repetitively and safely.
  • Work a rotational schedule, up to 12 hours a day, both day and night shifts as required.
  • Operate in noise and vibration, including outdoor weather conditions.
  • Perform additional labour duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Earth moving and grading, stripping overburden, stacking, and stockpiling.
  • Lease building, reclamation, road building, pad building, and culvert installation.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, examining tires, fluids, lights, and brakes.
  • Adhere to project specifications and guidelines to maintain quality standards.
  • Communicate with supervisors, other operators, and site personnel to ensure smooth operations.
  • Follow Morgan’s Safe Work Procedures and PPE policies.
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding hazards; perform JSA and FLHA as required.
  • Demonstrate judgment, problem‑solving, and versatility.
  • Operate 2‑way radio.
  • Shovel out equipment tracks.
  • Perform and assist with labour duties as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualification Requirements
  • Rock Truck – Minimum 3 years of recent experience operating 40‑ton Rock Trucks on heavy civil earthworks, construction, road building or mining sites.
  • Rigid Haul Trucks – Minimum 3 years of recent experience operating 773, 777 or 789 Haul Trucks on similar sites.
  • Graders – Minimum 3 years of recent experience operating 14M and/or 24H graders.
  • Excavators – Minimum 3 years of recent experience operating 336 and/or 470 excavators.
  • Dozers – Minimum 3 years of recent experience operating D6T, D8, D9 and/or D10 dozers.
  • All operators:
    • Experience with hard rock mining environments preferred.
    • Experience in above ground/surface mining an asset.
    • Experience stripping overburden, stacking, stockpiling, and reclamation on all ground conditions.
    • Proven experience on ice road construction.
    • Experience with technical specifications, grade plans, building roads, oilfield leases and pads preferred.
    • Ability to finish or trim preferred.

This is a project‑based construction role tied to a specific project’s duration. The position concludes upon project completion or the incumbent’s role within it. Continued or future employment is not guaranteed, but placement on another project may occur if suitable opportunities exist.
