Overall Job Responsibility:

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Social Worker acts as an integral member of the team. Working with other positions, the Social Worker participates in the delivery of services to high-risk individuals and families in Windsor-Essex County. The Social Worker will deliver these services according to the policies and procedures of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and any other relevant protocols.

Key areas of Responsibility:

  • Facilitating partnerships with families, individuals, staff and other agencies
  • Collaboration with Public Health Nurses, Family Home Visitors, Health Promotion Specialists and other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Provision of counselling and referrals, needs assessments and evaluation, and referrals to appropriate community agencies to respond to clients’ social and health needs
  • Responsibilities throughout Windsor and Essex County

Position Qualifications: Education, Training, & Experience

  • A Bachelor of Social Work degree and registration in good standing as a Social Worker in Ontario is a requirement.
  • A minimum of three years of pertinent work experience is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience with counselling and establishing therapeutic relationships with vulnerable clients is required.
  • Experience with client case management and home visiting in the community would be assets.
  • Experience in working with new immigrants and refugees would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with electronic case management and documentation systems would be assets.
  • The ability to communicate fluently in French or a second language would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with local community supports that assist families with young children would be an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of current computer applications (ex. Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher; Internet; outlook)
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, access to a reliable motor vehicle during working hours, as well as 1 million dollars in liability insurance.
  • Satisfactory police clearance
  • TB test
  • WECHU immunization policies must be adhered to

This position includes the option of hybrid work, whereby employees may be able to work remotely or from the office, based on departmental needs, job duties and personal work preferences. The successful candidate must reside within the province of Ontario and must be available to attend the office upon request.
