About the Opportunity

The Health Care Social Worker is a core member of the community-based Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Day Treatment Services that includes the ABI Day Program and the ABI Outreach Team. This position reports to the Program Manager – Community ABI and is part of an inter-professional team. The Social Worker works in close collaboration with other team members to provide a diverse range of interventions to clients and their families. The goal is to enable clients to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health.

Health Care Social Workers provide a diverse range of individual and group-based interventions to clients and their families enabling them to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health. These interventions include: psychosocial assessments, adjustment therapy, supportive therapy, crisis counseling, resource counseling, discharge planning and case management. The Health Care Social Worker is actively involved in advocacy, education, program planning, consultation and collaboration on behalf of individuals/groups within the institution and community. The role is multifaceted and dynamic requiring the Health Care Social Worker to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.

This position may be required to provide service throughout the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care portfolio.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a recognized university
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the NSCSW
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience as a clinical Social Worker required
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of human behaviour including systems theory, family dynamics, group dynamics, and theories of behaviour change
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies would be an asset Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License required and access to a reliable automobile
  • Maintains current certification in CPR
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Training or experience in motivational interviewing and client centered treatment approaches are strong assets
  • Training or experience in group-based treatment approaches, neurosciences and acquired brain injury rehabilitation are strong assets
  • Completion of training in advanced non-violent crisis intervention, and suicide/violent risk assessment required or willingness to complete same
  • Willingness to participate in the development of ABI Day Programming, ABI Outreach Programming
  • Willingness to work within a collaborative inter-professional context
  • Willingness and ability to travel and see patients potentially within a variety of settings within the HRM catchment area
  • Willingness to use personal vehicle for work purposes and to inform insurer of same
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License required and access to a reliable vechicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Minimum two (2) years of experience required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years of experience may be considered for the selection process. If offered employment, they will be placed on the Health Care Social Worker (Developmental) scale.

Hours
  • Permanent Full Time; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits

$40.18- $54.14 Hourly

Developmental (less than 2yrs): $35.83 - $38.79

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan. (Permanent Long Assignments Only)

This position is currently eligible for a Market Adjustment of approximately $XXX.XX biweekly. Eligibility for a Market Adjustment is reviewed periodically.
