Paladin is Hiring a Healthcare Security Officer!

About the Opportunity

Paladin Security is hiring Healthcare Security Officers to support Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, NS — a vital hospital serving the community with a 24-hour emergency department , medical and surgical wards , and a variety of specialized services.

As a Healthcare Security Officer , you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors in a dynamic hospital environment.

This position offers professional growth , comprehensive training , and an opportunity to work as part of a team dedicated to high-quality care and service .

Full-Time | On-Site | $20.50 / hour

Key Responsibilities :

  • Patrol Hospital Grounds : Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
  • Monitor Surveillance Systems : Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
  • Access Control : Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
  • Respond to Emergencies : Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
  • Provide Customer Service : Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Conflict Resolution : De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
  • Report Writing : Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
  • Collaboration with Hospital Staff : Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
  • Enforce Hospital Policies : Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards

Requirements

  • Eligible to obtain a Security License for Nova Scotia
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR - Level C (CSA-approved vendor)
  • Two doses of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella , and two-step TB skin test
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotational shifts (07 : 00–19 : 00 / 19 : 00–07 : 00), including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform physical duties (patrolling, standing, walking, responding to incidents)
  • Willing to complete pre-requisite UoF / MOAB training if certifications not already held (with 6-month commitment)
  • High school diploma / GED
  • Nice-to-Have :

  • Current certifications in Use of Force (UoF) and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB)
  • Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF / MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position – Please be aware : The UoF / MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position / availability)

  • Previous experience in security , law enforcement , or a healthcare environment
  • Experience monitoring surveillance systems (CCTV, alarms)
  • Additional language skills (French, etc.) an asset
