Job summary

The Health Sciences Librarian at the University Library, University of Saskatchewan, is a 0.5 FTE five-year term position focusing on instruction and research support for students and faculty in the health sciences, with liaison responsibilities to the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition.

Qualifications

Job description

Health Sciences Librarian

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a 0.5 FTE five-year term librarian position with the University Library. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and flexible individual with the appropriate skills and qualifications to work collaboratively as part of our team. The appointee will serve as part of the health sciences librarian team with liaison responsibilities for the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition and will contribute to library-wide projects and priorities. The focus of the position will be on instruction and research support to students and faculty in the assigned areas.

Reporting to the Dean, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing high quality services that support teaching, learning, and research in their liaison areas including:
    • designing and delivering information literacy instruction and programming.
    • providing information services, including one-on-one consultations, on a wide variety of topics including literature searching, knowledge syntheses, scholarly communication, research data management.
    • developing high quality collections of digital and print resources in assigned disciplinary areas.
  • Building collaborative relationships with campus community to advance learning and research.
  • Working as part of teams across the Library to advance strategic areas such as knowledge synthesis, open scholarship, student experience, and decolonization of services, collections and spaces.

The Library is currently developing a new strategic plan to guide its work in the coming years. Each librarian at the University Library will contribute to the implementation of this new plan by working as a member of one of the library’s four divisions (Learning and Curriculum Support Division, Research Support Services Division, Collections and Discovery Division, University Archives and Special Collections Division). The assignment to a division is based on a combination of the candidate’s experience, interest, and the needs of the library.

Qualifications

An ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science degree or international equivalent is required for this appointment. Professional librarian experience is preferred. Experience or education related to health sciences disciplines and/or health sciences librarianship is an asset.

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate:
  • Experience and/or knowledge in providing high quality research support, such as literature searching, knowledge synthesis, scholarly communication, and research data management;
  • Experience teaching and/or knowledge of effective teaching practices;
  • Building and sustaining effective and collaborative professional working relationships and partnerships;
  • The ability to take initiative and be a self-starter;
  • Flexibility and creativity; and
  • An awareness of current trends and challenges in health sciences librarianship in academic libraries.
Salary, Benefits, and Application Information

Salary bands, based on 1.0 FTE, for the 2026-2027 academic year are as follows:

  • Assistant Librarian: $95,187 to $113,527
  • Associate Librarian: $113,527 to $135,535
  • Librarian: $135,525 to $164,879

It is anticipated that this position will be filled at the Assistant Librarian level. Starting salary will be prorated to 0.5 FTE and is calculated from the base salary with consideration given for previous librarian experience.
