Job description

Term of Appt: May 15, 2025 - May 1, 2026

Start date: Immediately

Reporting to: Associate Dean of Health Sciences & Human Services


Salary:

$45.60 - $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications, as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay, and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay. The campus closure period between Christmas and New Year's Day is unpaid. Employees may contribute to the College Pension Plan, matched by the employer.

Description:

NLC's Health Sciences Department seeks a temporary, part-time instructor with in-depth knowledge of the scope of practice for LPNs and HCAs. Travel between Dawson Creek and Fort St. John campuses may be required, with efforts to minimize travel.

The curriculum for HCA, APN, and PN is designed to be integrated, professional, collaborative, and culturally sensitive, preparing graduates to care for individuals and families at various life stages and in diverse practice settings.

As part of the Health Sciences Department team, you will strive for excellence in instruction by employing various teaching strategies and collaborating with colleagues to foster inquiry and evidence-informed practice.

The position runs from May 15, 2025, to May 1, 2026.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Completion of an accredited Diploma in Practical Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Current unrestricted registration as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • At least two years of full-time Canadian nursing experience, with knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system and roles of healthcare team members, including experience with older adults with complex health needs and orientation in home support and multi-level/complex care.
  • Ability to teach adult learners, demonstrated through completion of the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, previous teaching experience, or during the interview process.
  • Completion of coursework in Indigenous cultural safety and humility.
  • Completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to student motivation and achievement.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Preferred:

  • Teaching experience as a nurse or healthcare professional.
  • Current residents of BC will be given preference.
