Objective
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Student is part of a team implementing and overseeing the Safety Program, including the development of site safety policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Safety : Champion a safety culture by setting and enforcing safety standards across operations. Conduct site safety audits, provide feedback, and collaborate on improvements. Promote safety guidelines and ensure compliance.
- Assist in Safety Inspections & Audits : Support workplace inspections, hazard identification, and compliance with safety regulations.
- Data Collection & Analysis : Gather safety data, track incidents, and analyze trends for safety improvements.
- Policy & Procedure Support : Assist in reviewing and updating safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Training & Awareness : Help organize safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and campaigns.
- Incident Reporting & Investigation : Support documentation and investigation of workplace incidents and near misses.
- Regulatory Compliance Support : Assist in ensuring adherence to local regulations and standards.
- PPE & Safety Equipment Management : Help monitor PPE distribution and safety gear availability.
- Emergency Preparedness : Assist in emergency drills, response plan updates, and first aid station checks.
- Safety Culture Promotion : Participate in safety meetings and initiatives to foster a safety-first environment.
- Administrative Support : Maintain safety records, assist with reports, and provide general administrative support.
Relationships With Other Jobs
- Collaborate with site and unit management on safety systems, processes, and training.
- Work with the Safety Manager on priorities and policy development.
Accountabilities
- Spend approximately 70% of time in the field, with 33% on critical control management.
- Support the Safety team and operations as assigned.
Qualification Profile
Education and Work Experience :
- Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or related field.
- Bilingual in French and English, depending on location.
Knowledge and Skills
- Flexible hours as required, including peak periods.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- Independent work capability with a mature attitude.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills to relate with diverse backgrounds.
- Timely decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with computer applications is an asset.
