The Opportunity:

As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Operations team, the successful candidate will develop, implement, and maintain the Company’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs, policies, systems, and reports for the Heritage Plant. This role ensures legislative and plant compliance with occupational health and safety through direct involvement with operations. Responsibilities include developing safe work procedures, training, claims management, and risk assessment to reduce accidents and injuries. The goal is to standardize safe work methods and promote high-impact safety behaviors to achieve a world-class safety program. The candidate will be involved in all Health & Safety activities related to the Heritage Plant.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
  • Develop and implement Safe Work Procedures (SWP) to identify hazards and risks and establish hazard controls.
  • Enforce the business’s Golden Rules and site safety programs through cross-functional meetings.
  • Maintain and present OHS metrics and documentation.
  • Design and deliver safety training for workers, management, and Safety Committee members.
  • Conduct behavioral observations and audits to reduce risks and hazards.
  • Assist in Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews for new or modified equipment and processes.
  • Review and monitor contractor OHS programs for compliance.
  • Respond to incidents, provide first aid, and support investigations.
  • Support emergency management activities, including drills and evacuations.
  • Manage safety data and content across various software platforms.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure data confidentiality.
  • Support management at multiple levels to promote safety culture.
What You’ll Bring:
  • 3-5 years of progressive H&S experience.
  • Experience supporting large client groups in fast-paced environments is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory training requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with regulatory bodies like the Ministry of Labour or Environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of WSIB claims management is an asset.
