Job description

Our client in York Region, ON is actively looking for a Health and Safety Coordinator to join their team.

Job Description:

  1. Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation.
  2. Assist in conducting risk analysis, hazard analysis, and physical demand analysis.
  3. Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all Employees, visitors, and contractors.
  4. Assist in planning, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating safety programs.
  5. Conduct safety talks, safety observations, physical demands analysis, Job hazard analysis and mentor employees on safety practices.
  6. Conduct safety training, inspections, investigations, and audits, and develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  7. Assist in developing policies, processes, programs, standards, safe work practices and updating manuals, and training materials.
  8. Research, plan, organize, and conduct training programs/seminars for Managers, Supervisors, employees, and contractors as required.
  9. Research occupational safety information on a regular basis and ensure best practices are implemented to minimize hazards in the workplace.
  10. Track all corrective and preventive actions and ensure that they are completed promptly.
  11. Assist in meeting the requirements of COR / ISO / WSIB excellence program.
  12. Perform additional assignments.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree and certificate/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
  2. Safety designations such as CRSP or CHSC are considered an asset.
  3. Two to three years of experience in occupational health and safety in an industrial establishment, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
  4. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the OHSA and workers' compensation legislation.
  5. Strong organizational skills.
  6. Strong communication skills; bilingual (both verbal and written).
  7. Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
  8. Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize tasks.
  9. Must be a highly motivated and team-oriented individual with attention to detail.
