Daiken North America LTD is seeking a Trainer, Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist for our Huntsville, ON facility.
The Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist position reports to the EHS Director and is responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating HSE documents, along with other assigned tasks.

Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update all Job Task Analysis, Operating Manual / Troubleshooting Guides at least every 2 years
- Coordinate the Safe Workplace Ontario program for the plant
- Schedule and coordinate plant hygiene testing, hearing testing, WHMIS testing, including eye wash stations and first aid kits
- Update the plant Health & Safety Policies booklet as required every 2 years
- Prepare monthly and year-end health & safety statistics and reports for all stakeholders, including corporate and CPA
- Represent the company as chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Manage S.I.B. Contractor Clearance Certificates and Liability Insurance
- Perform annual chemical audits for J.H.S.C.
- Oversee air wash conversions seasonally
- Monitor and record well water usage and destination, maintaining a daily water usage spreadsheet for MOE reporting
- Conduct monthly water sampling for pond and tap waters, sending samples to labs for analysis
- Record weekly discharge to septic and inspect water infiltration ponds
- Monitor well depths weekly
- Maintain supply check and record sheets for daily oil, water discharges, and maintenance
- Arrange leachate well testing annually to confirm groundwater safety
- Dispose of hazardous waste from the lab and treaters, maintaining all movement documents for waste manifests
- Develop and enforce recycling, landfill, and environmental waste plans
- Maintain and submit facility air and environmental permits, leading facility submissions and audits for wood supply and chain of custody
- Maintain and report on permits for wood consumption and tracking
- Act as lead auditor and company representative on ISO 9000
- Review and update chemical or regulatory inventories, including approval of new chemicals or processes
- Perform other duties as laid out by the Corporate Environmental Engineer, including C of A’s
Qualifications
- Understanding of Health & Safety policies and legislation, including Environmental (MOE & MOL)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- College training in HS&E and Environmental fields
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good organizational and computer skills, including proficiency in PowerPoint
- Problem-solving skills and self-motivation
