Overview

Health & Safety Coordinator (Heavy Civil Construction)

Sureway Construction is one of Alberta’s largest heavy construction contractors, with over 50 years’ experience, involved in civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Schedule: 8+ Hours/day, Day Shift, 5 x 2 Monday - Friday, Schedule as per Operational Requirements, OT after 8hr/day or 44hr/week, On-Call (Evenings & Weekends)

Location: 9175 – 14 Street NW, Edmonton, AB - no direct access to public transportation

Essential: Hard-working, reliable, flexible with schedule, ability to work in physically demanding conditions

Requirements:

  • Personal Reliable Vehicle
  • CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support

Pre-employment:

  • Drug and alcohol testing swab-based test
  • Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation

Health & Safety Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Deliver company safety orientation and conduct pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
  • Organize and register all company safety training.
  • Organize and process FLHA’s, BBO cards, inspections, incident reports.
  • Conduct Respirator Fit Testing.
  • Conduct required training (WHMIS, Flagger etc.).
  • Compile safety and TRIF statistics.
  • Record meeting minutes and prepare presentations.
  • Perform all administrative duties for the safety department (data entry, filing, Safety manual updates).
  • Assist with creation of site-specific safety plans.
  • Assist in developing and leading morning PSI and weekly safety meetings.
  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.

Health & Safety Coordinator Qualifications:

  • Health and Safety Administration designation or equivalent training and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Health and Safety Administrator, within the construction industry an asset.
  • Knowledge of pre-qualification systems (ISNet, Complyworks, etc.).
  • Exceptional computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with both Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business.
  • High degree of quality in regards to attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to speak in front of groups.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and learning.
  • WHMIS Train the Trainer Certification.
  • Flagger Train the Trainer Certification.
