Job Purpose

The Health and Safety Consultancy Manager provides leadership, direction and mentorship to the OHS teams ensuring seamless implementation, management and continual improvement of the health and safety services strategy.

Day-to-Day responsibilities

  • Ensure operational effectiveness across the health and safety consultancy services
  • Utilizing data from operational reports and reviews ensure that operational outputs meet service level agreements
  • Verify that consultancy services are providing sound and technically accurate information relevant to the client’s needs
  • Ensure that development projects are aligned to operational objectives and on track for completion within expected timelines.
  • Evaluate and create new reports and continual improvement initiatives to ensure services are compliant with relevant legislation across Canada and reflect industry best practices
  • Recommend and participate in the development of new service delivery opportunities taking into consideration client needs, industry and market trends and new developments within the health and safety field.
  • Create and verify quality management metrics to ensure that service levels are maintained, and clients are receiving exceptional services
  • Ensure integration of OHS services taking into consideration interdependencies across the organization through key strategic relationships with other areas, including IT, finance, marketing, sales, customer experience and other service areas
  • Provide management support and coaching to staff ensuring an elevated level of engagement and professional development
  • Manage performance expectations within the Peninsula performance management processes
  • Manage the recruitment, onboarding and offboarding of health and safety staff as required
  • Provide leadership and guidance to field consultants and in some cases complete field-level health and safety consulting to strategic clients, which includes:
  • Evaluating the client’s workplace to determine the applicable legislative and industry requirements
  • Educating the client on health and safety deficiencies found through the workplace audit.
  • Guidance on legal obligations as an employer under the Occupational Health and Safety Law.
  • Demonstrating the need for supplementary documentation when it comes to risks and hazards in the workplace.
  • Providing recommendations and solutions to health and safety gaps within the workplace.
  • Evaluating and advising safe work procedures tailored to the client's needs.
  • Developing a comprehensive health and safety action plan for clients to follow and achieve compliance.
  • Educating clients on technology and the platform used to manage the health and safety management system
  • Providing training to managers, employees and contractors on health and safety requirements
  • Completing audits and comprehensive reports outlining deficiencies and recommendations
  • Providing excellent customer service tailored to the client's needs
  • Problem Solving and Resolution
  • Critically analyze and evaluate issues utilizing data from client responses, technical information, legislative requirements, operational data, and environmental factors to formulate corrective actions and recommendations to complex problems.
  • Ensure new strategies and initiatives are communicated to relevant stakeholders taking into consideration interdependencies and the organizational environment and needs.
  • Thought Leadership
  • Demonstrating superior communication skills, participate in webinars, interviews and other external outreach vehicles showcasing the capabilities of the organization with respect to health and safety services.

Job Qualifications

  • Has a diploma or degree from an accredited educational facility in health and safety or a related discipline
  • CRSP designation is a requirement
  • Has a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in health and safety, preferably across two or more industry sectors
  • Has an operational mindset with demonstrated appreciation for metrics and process management
  • A background in customer service with a passion for delivering unparalleled service levels to clients
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work in a multi-faceted, multi-client, high paced work environment
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Strong time management, people management and organizational skills
