Summary

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Specialist develops, leads, and executes health, safety, and environment programs for assigned accounts. They ensure compliance with internal, external, and regulatory requirements to mitigate risks and improve performance. The specialist also supports the development and deployment of HSE management systems, tools, processes, and procedures according to external standards. They adopt a systemic approach to implement the HSE management system and interpret all HSE regulatory matters to ensure compliance with legislation and industry standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Organizing and managing HSE training for employees:

  • Identify HSE training needs of Operations teams.
  • Plan and organize training sessions with trainers.
  • Ensure compliance and follow-up for training courses.

Monitoring PDS team projects:

  • Review plans and specifications related to projects.
  • Attend project meetings and follow up as needed.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure HSE compliance.

Lockout:

  • Follow up on validation of lockout sheets.
  • Maintain the lockout database.
  • Collaborate with Operations teams to ensure procedures are followed.

Integration of new HSE coordinators:

  • Organize and provide initial training for new coordinators.
  • Serve as a resource during their integration period.

Audits and inspections:

  • Conduct internal audits (ERP, lockout, compliance, etc.).
  • Document discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Follow up on audit recommendations.

Knowledge & Skills

  • College degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Sciences; or a master's in related fields.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in HSE program execution.
  • Knowledge of HSE regulatory requirements and management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, CSA Z1000, OHSAS 18001).
  • Strong program development and execution skills.
  • Bilingual in French and English, depending on the account.
  • Ability to promote HSE programs and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Investigation and root cause analysis skills.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Facility Management operations.
  • Experience delivering HSE training.
  • Ability to apply regulatory knowledge across work streams.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Willingness to travel and monitor HSE 24/7 Hazard Line.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

Safety:

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional or equivalent.
  • Registered ISO 45001 Compliance Auditor.

Environment:

  • Environmental Professional (EP).
  • Registered ISO 14001 Compliance Auditor.
  • LEED GA.
