Your Opportunity:

Healthy Children & Families (HCF) is a department in the Promoting Health division of Provincial Population & Public Health (PPPH). In alignment with AHS and Alberta Health strategic priorities, HCF works closely with our partners to promote health and prevent disease across the lifespan through a range of evidence-informed initiatives and interventions that are responsive to the needs of people living in Alberta. Using a population health approach to address the needs of the preconception, maternal, infant, child, youth and adult populations, the department focuses on promoting health and preventing disease by reducing risk factors. Priority areas of work for HCF include Sexual & Reproductive Health Promotion, Early Years Health Promotion, Student & Adult Health Promotion and Oral Health. Team members are assigned work that focuses on one or more of these areas as needed. Under the direction of the HCF manager, Student & Adult Health Promotion & Oral Health, this position will work in close collaboration with team members across HCF, as well as various internal teams including those within Promoting Health and across PPPH, to support capacity building and coordinate efforts to deliver population- based interventions. The HPF II will lead and coordinate health promotion and disease prevention initiatives and programs using a population health approach. Key duties include conducting situational analyses to identify factors that promote or compromise health, including literature reviews and environmental scans to make recommendations for initiative and project planning; project management using an integrated planning and evaluation approach; collaborating with internal and external key partners as required during planning, implementation and ongoing quality improvement and evaluation of initiatives and projects on a provincial level.

Description:

As a Health Promotion Facilitator II, you will lead and coordinate health promotion, disease and injury prevention initiatives and programs using a population health promotion approach. You will identify behavioural, social, political, economic, environmental and organizational factors that promote or compromise health and recommend evidence-informed strategies to address identified priorities. You will conduct situational analyses, literature reviews, environmental scans and focus groups to make recommendations as part of an integrated program planning and evaluation process. You will manage projects using standardized tools and techniques that are conducive or aligned with health promotion, disease and injury prevention practices. You will collaborate with key internal and external key stakeholders in project or program planning, development, implementation, evaluation and improvement. You will facilitate community and staff engagement and build community and staff capacity around population health promotion priorities. You will evaluate the effectiveness of existing health promotion and disease prevention strategies and make recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Health Promotion, Public or Population Health, Health Education or a related field.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in health promotion/public health or a related field with demonstrated experience in: applying the Population Health Promotion model; conducting environmental scans and evidence reviews; critically analyzing and synthesizing information into reports, planning documents and presentations; identifying issues and making recommendations for comprehensive initiatives, program planning or resource development; project management, development and implementation; organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively; facilitating and leading groups with a variety of disciplines, leadership levels, sectors and internal and external partners for consensus-building and capacity building; critical thinking and problem-solving; successfully managing and prioritizing workload for multiple projects including demonstrated resourcefulness, creativity and critical thinking; evaluation and quality improvement; developing communications and knowledge translation products for a variety of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

Subject matter expertise in Sexual and Reproductive Health, experience with teaching sexual health, knowledge or experience with Alberta Education curriculum standards is an asset.
