Base pay range

$30.00/hr - $35.00/hr

UniTech is the world’s leader in radiological protective clothing supply, serving Nuclear Power Plants and the Department of Energy (DOE). Our facilities provide nuclear laundry and material decontamination services.

The Health Physics Technician position involves a wide range of responsibilities to support all facets of operation, including:

  1. Perform radiological surveys using various instrumentation to monitor contamination and radiation levels.
  2. Survey plant work areas, support areas, perimeter boundaries, and the environment.
  3. Calibrate and perform quality control on handheld and laboratory instruments, including automated gas flow proportional counters, liquid scintillation counters, and gamma spectroscopy at select locations.
  4. Collect and analyze air and water samples, and assist in wastewater treatment operations.
  5. Support the receipt and shipment of radioactive materials regulated as Hazardous Materials by DOT.
  6. Use software to input data, evaluate analysis results, and maintain reports.
  7. Calibrate and maintain specialized instrumentation such as Automated Laundry Monitors (ALMs), personnel monitors, pipe monitors, respirator monitors, etc.
  8. Manage radioactive waste packaging, sampling, inventory, and records.
  9. Issue personnel, area, and environmental dosimeters, and assist in dosimetry program management.
  10. Perform in-vivo bioassays (chest counts) and assays to release materials from radiological controls.
  11. Support plant operations and special projects.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in health physics, nuclear engineering, or a related science; or a bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, or science.
  • Practical experience in radiological safety.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn custom software.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Ability to interpret technical procedures and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • English language skills required; Spanish or other languages are a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Physical ability to stand for an 8-hour shift and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Professional credential such as NRRPT is preferred or can be obtained.
