Overview

Health Centre NurseLocation: Oakville, Ontario (on-site)
Type: Full-time contract (18 months)
Work Schedule: 12-hour day and 12-hour night shifts including weekends
Salary Range: $35.00/hour - $40.00/hour

Appleby College is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Health Centre team. This role supports the health, safety, and emotional well-being of students and campers. If you are enthusiastic about working with school-age students, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive health services and support the daily operations of the Health Centre as the first point of contact for students and campers
  • Deliver essential nursing care, conduct physical and emotional health assessments, and offer comfort, guidance, and support
  • Conduct health screenings and assessments (including concussion checks, mental health evaluations) and administer medications as needed
  • Respond to urgent situations and medical emergencies with professionalism and care
  • Liaise with the Director, Health Services and the School Physician to report concerns and coordinate health services
  • Support students with scheduling and preparation for medical appointments, including arranging transportation when needed
  • Deliver health education, promote informed decision-making, and administer immunizations as required (support for school-based and public health initiatives)
  • Manage and implement individualized care plans for students with chronic or complex medical needs
  • Collaborate with house faculty, guidance staff, and the Athletic Therapy Department on concussion protocols
  • Create medical information lists and resources to support trip leaders and students away from campus
  • Prepare and maintain first aid kits and medical supplies for on-campus and off-campus trips, considering allergies or chronic conditions
  • Maintain accurate documentation and student reporting
  • Provide nursing services to campers during March Break and summer programs
Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) certification in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • CPR and AED certification with annual recertification
  • Previous nursing experience in a school, pediatric, or community health setting preferred
  • Understanding of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice and public health guidelines
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices and privacy laws (PHIPA)
  • Strong background in providing emotional support and mental health care
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, OneNote) and in navigating health record systems
  • Commitment to working shift schedules, including 12-hour shifts (day and night), weekends, and on-call rotations
