Job Summary

Come work as a Health Care Support Worker and earn your Care Aide registration with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health is hiring Health Care Support Workers through the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Successful candidates will be eligible to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry after completing the training.

The Long-term Care and Assisted Living (HCAP LTC) program requires a commitment of 1.5 to 2 years, including 37.5 hours per week covering mornings, evenings, and weekends. Candidates may work as healthcare support workers for up to six months before starting school. The education component lasts approximately eight months. After graduation, employees must fulfill a 12-month Return of Service Agreement.

Funding covers wages, tuition, and books during training.

Applicants will be considered for positions at Long Term Care sites across VCH, with start dates between 2025 and 2026. Assignments will be based on seat availability.

As a Ministry of Health funded program, eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and will need to pass a criminal record check, especially for working with children or vulnerable adults.

The hiring process includes interviews and reference checks. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted due to high application volume.

As a Health Care Support Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health, your responsibilities include:

  • Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or other regulated healthcare professional.
  • Providing non-clinical healthcare supports to clients, residents, families, and visitors in various settings, following care plans and safety protocols.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Proof of Grade 10 completion (or equivalent).
  • For applicants with three years of full-time instruction in English: English 10 completion or equivalent. For fewer than three years, a standardized English proficiency test score may be required. English is not your first language? An English test might be needed. Work hours, days off, and work locations may change based on operational needs and collective agreements. Successful candidates may need to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. All health care workers in publicly-funded facilities must report vaccination history and infections for safety and outbreak management. This information will be collected during onboarding.
