Job Summary

Come work as a Health Care Support Worker and earn your Care Aide registration with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health is hiring Health Care Support Workers via the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Successful candidates will be eligible to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry after completing the training.

The Community Health (HCAP Home Support) program requires about 1.5 years of commitment. Candidates should be available for 37.5 hours/week, including mornings, evenings, and weekends during the program. They may also work up to 12 days as health care support workers before starting school. The training lasts approximately eight months. After graduation, employees must fulfill a 12-month Return of Service Agreement.

Funding covers wages, tuition, and books during training.

Applicants will be considered for seats at various Home Support sites across VCH, with cohorts starting between 2025 and 2026. Assignments will depend on seat availability.

As a Ministry of Health funded program, eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and undergo a criminal record check, especially for roles involving children or vulnerable adults.

The hiring process includes interviews and reference checks. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted due to high application volume.

As a Health Care Support Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

  • Work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or other regulated healthcare professional.
  • Provide non-clinical healthcare support to clients, families, and visitors in various settings, following established care plans and safety protocols.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Proof of Grade 10 completion (or equivalent).
  • English proficiency: either English 10 completion or a standardized English language test score, depending on instruction history.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License (for certain regions), with personal vehicle required for local travel.

Work hours and locations may change based on operational needs and collective agreements. Successful applicants may need to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. All health care workers must report vaccination and infection history as part of onboarding.
