Job summary

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work from a recognized university.
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers.
  • Two years of post-MSW clinical experience is required.
  • Palliative care experience is an asset.
  • Grief and bereavement training is an asset.
  • Experience in a community-based setting is preferred.
  • Client-/family-centered approach is essential.
  • Ability to conduct biopsychosocial assessments.
  • Ability to navigate local community resources and agencies.
  • Travel to other sites may be required; access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Languages beyond English (French) are assets.

About the Opportunity

The Health Care Social Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team providing collaborative, holistic care on the primary to quaternary care continuum. Social Workers are primarily concerned with the relationships between people and their environments, which are integral to psychosocial, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. The social determinants of health are embedded in social work theory and practice and are the focus for the dynamic and interactive process of engagement, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Social Workers build upon the strengths of patients/clients by focusing on existing coping strategies and problem-solving skills, past successes, and personal resources.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master's degree in Social Work from a recognized university
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers
  • 2 years' post MSW related clinical experience required
  • Previous palliative care experience an asset
  • Grief & Bereavement Training an asset
  • Previous experience working in community-based setting preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to use a client-/family-centered approach
  • Ability to complete biopsychosocial assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to assist patients and families with navigation of local community resources and agencies
  • Travel to other sites may be required and must have access to a reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits

$40.17 - $55.49 Hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
