About the Opportunity

The Health Care Social Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team providing collaborative, holistic care on the primary to quaternary care continuum. Social Workers focus on the relationships between people and their environments, which are integral to psychosocial, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. The social determinants of health are embedded in social work theory and practice and guide the engagement, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation process. Social Workers build upon the strengths of patients/clients by focusing on existing coping strategies, past successes, and personal resources.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from a recognized university
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers
  • Two (2) years post BSW related clinical experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
  • Previous experience working in adult community mental health preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to use a client-/family-centered approach
  • Familiarity with evidence-based treatment approaches for severe and persistent mental illness, such as Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Motivational Interviewing
  • Demonstrated experience with group facilitation
  • Ability to complete biopsychosocial assessments
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies is an asset
  • Time management and disciplined self-organization
  • Ability to collaborate with community partners
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Travel to other sites may be required
Compensation and Benefits

$36.58 - $47.35 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
