Accountability Objective

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of seniors? Our Health Care Attendants are critical to our communities by supporting people in doing the things that matter most to them while providing a comfortable, safe, and nurturing environment. Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Manager, the Health Care Attendants focus on enriching residents’ lives by ensuring they can make their own choices and lead full lives as independently as possible. They deliver care based on individual care plans, policies, procedures, and established standards of care, following instructions from the Health and Wellness Manager or LPN/RN in their absence.

Background/Qualifications
  • Minimum of grade 12 education required.
  • Certificate from an approved Health Care Aide program, with additional training related to the care provided; current BC Care Aide registration. Completion of medical administration certificate (West).
  • Certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR.
  • Previous experience working with seniors is an asset.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to foster excellent human relations with residents, families, and team members.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Dependable, responsible, and capable of working well both independently and as part of a team. Maintains a positive attitude aligned with the residence’s goals and standards.
  • Resident-oriented with values and vision aligned with the residence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in and adhere to continuous quality improvement standards.
  • Collaborate with the care team to provide feedback on care plans based on residents’ physical, emotional, social, and safety needs.
  • Provide care including cognitive, social, and emotional support, promoting comfort, safety, and well-being.
  • Support residents’ activities of daily living respecting their rights and choices.
  • Perform care procedures according to established policies and standards.
  • Observe, report, and document changes in residents’ physical and emotional conditions, monitor vital signs, and maintain health records in compliance with legislation.
  • Complete accurate and legible documentation as per policies.
  • Assist in monitoring interventions, providing feedback for improvements.
  • Support co-workers and advocate for residents and families to protect residents’ rights.
  • Use equipment and supplies effectively, following safety and manufacturer instructions.
  • Maintain residents’ living spaces and belongings, ensuring cleanliness and safety.
  • Serve beverages and meals in the dining room as requested.
  • Assist with housekeeping and laundry duties, maintain supply stocks.
  • Follow infection control protocols, including outbreak management.
  • Administer medication and treatments following approved standards and procedures.
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, physicians, and staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Comply with all policies, complete mandatory training, and participate in safety programs.
