Position Overview

The Uncertified (Untrained) Health Care Aide (UHCA) may work in a variety of settings including community (clients’ homes, assisted/supportive living), health care centers, and hospitals assisting patients/residents/clients with activities of daily living with the goal of supporting independence while providing care and treatment.

The job specification sets out the overall general duties and responsibilities of the UHCA and recognizes that responsibilities may vary dependent on the setting where the UHCA works.

Main Function:
Under the general supervision of the Manager, RN, RPN, and/or LPN, the UHCA works with all members of the health care team including certified Health Care Aides (certified HCAs) assisting with patient/ resident/client care and providing basic supportive care as directed.

The UHCA demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/site/program.

Experience
  • Previous experience providing care to the elderly and/or individuals with physical or cognitive impairments is preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • 7-day Health Care Support Worker micro-credential from Assiniboine Community College, Red River College Polytechnic, or University College of the North OR a Health Service Delivery Organization approved course that meets the minimum requirement of the 7-day micro-credential as determined by the Employer.


SPECIAL TRAINING:

  • May vary depending on the service delivery area.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • UHCAs working in a community setting are required to have a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license,access to a reliable vehicle, and/or willingness to travel year-round.

  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
Physical Requirements
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
  • May encounter exposure to disease, blood, body fluids, pest infestation, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, residual smoke, pets, pet dander, etc.
  • Position involves extensive physical activities such as standing, transferring and transporting patients and equipment handling between 10-20kg on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work shift work and weekends.
  • May be required to travel between client’s homes.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT. The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
