Your Opportunity:

The Health Care Aide (HCA) is a vital member of the multidisciplinary team within the Albert Kidney Care – North (AKC-N) program. The HCA provides direct patient care, assisting with daily activities, comfort, and safety, and supports the overall care in their assigned area. Responsibilities include patient support (e.g., infectious disease screening, weighing, transporting, comfort), dialysis support (setting up and dismantling machines, water sampling), and unit support (maintaining supplies and linens, transporting specimens). The position is based in the Norwood Hemodialysis unit and involves physical tasks requiring fine motor skills and strength.

This casual employment position offers flexibility, with no guaranteed hours, working days, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing personal assistance and supporting activities of daily living in accordance with care plans.
  2. Assisting with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs of patients.
  3. Supporting organized activities and observing/reporting patient wellbeing.
  4. Maintaining a safe environment and effective communication with patients and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active registration with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. A confirmation letter from the directory is required.
  • For nursing students: completion of at least 100 practicum hours and enrollment in an approved program.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 lbs (18 kg) and perform physical tasks.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work under supervision and adapt to changes.
  • Basic computer skills and compliance with hand hygiene policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent nephrology experience preferred.
  • Experience as a Health Care Aide within the last three years.
  • Familiarity with hemodialysis equipment and supplies.
  • Supply chain management experience and knowledge of Connect Care are advantageous.
