Position Overview

The Health Care Aide (HCA) may work in various settings including community (clients’ homes, assisted/supportive living), health care centers, and hospitals. The role involves assisting patients/residents/clients with activities of daily living to support independence while providing comprehensive care and treatment.

The job responsibilities may vary depending on the setting where the HCA works.

Main Function

Under the supervision of the Manager or designate, the HCA assists clients/patients/residents with activities of daily living, providing direct care within established standards, policies, and procedures. The HCA adapts to the changing needs of clients/residents and helps them reach and maintain health and independence within their abilities.

The HCA demonstrates commitment to the region’s vision, values, goals, and objectives.

Qualifications
  • Experience providing care to individuals with physical or cognitive impairments (preferred)
  • Minimum Grade 10 education (Manitoba standards)
  • Completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course
Special Training & Certification
  • May vary depending on the service area
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

  • Provide safe, effective personal care with respect for privacy and comfort
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Indigenous customs and possibly French language skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to handle physical activities such as standing, transferring, and lifting 10-20 kg
  • Work shift flexibility, including weekends and travel between client homes

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will bear any associated costs. A security check is valid if obtained within six months prior to employment.
