About the Role

The HealthCare Aide (HCA) reports to the Director of Care and / or designate and providesperson served holistic and quality care. The HCA at our communities is an integralmember of the team, performing their role in accordance with established policiesand procedures, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they aretreated with respect and dignity.

Responsibilities
  1. Follows established care plans.
  2. Provides personal care for our residents fromadmission or transfer including; bathing, grooming, dressing, assists withmeals, oral hygiene and performing other care duties as applicable.
  3. Responds to call bells / alarms.
  4. Observes and monitors residents progress,symptoms and behavioral changes and reports significant observations.
  5. Utilizes proper safety protocols when operating mechanicalaides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers to transportresidents.
  6. Aids with lifting and / or transferring ofresidents by following established lifting / safety techniques.
  7. Provides residents with nutritional assistance(e.g. meals, nourishment and tray service, assists residents to eat as needed).Assists residents to and from dining areas in accordance with meal serviceschedules. Reports any appetite / fluid / food intake changes or concernsimmediately to the nurse.
  8. Encourages resident participation in foodservice and clean up.
  9. Performs laundry of resident’s personal clothingas required.
  10. Involves the resident in organizing andmaintaining their home environment, ensuring it is done according to theresidents’ wishes and needs.
  11. Attends and participates in community andeducation programs.
  12. Required to work positively andcollaboratively with all team members and supervisors.
  13. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  1. Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program.
  2. An active registration with the British ColumbiaCare Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  3. Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
  4. Medication Administration Certification anasset.
  5. Previous experience in a long term care facilityan asset.
  6. Demonstrates ability to provide compassionateand empathetic care.
  7. Ability to read, write and speak Englishproficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  8. All successful applicants must pass the vulnerablesector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  9. Must be in good health, physically able toperform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand and walk as required toperform the duties of the position.
