About the Role

The Healthcare Aide (HCA) reports to the Director of Care and/or designate and provides person-centered, holistic, and quality care. The HCA is an integral member of our team, performing their role in accordance with established policies and procedures, while respecting residents' rights and ensuring they are treated with dignity.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Providing personal care for residents from admission or transfer, including bathing, grooming, dressing, assisting with meals, oral hygiene, and other applicable care duties.
  2. Responding to call bells/alarms.
  3. Observing and monitoring residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, and reporting significant observations.
  4. Utilizing proper safety protocols when operating mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers to transport residents.
  5. Aiding with lifting and transferring of residents by following established safety techniques.
  6. Providing residents with nutritional assistance, including meals, nourishment, tray service, and assisting residents to eat as needed. Reporting any changes or concerns immediately to the nurse.
  7. Encouraging resident participation in food service and cleanup.
  8. Performing laundry of residents' personal clothing as required.
  9. Involving residents in organizing and maintaining their home environment according to their wishes and needs.
  10. Attending and participating in community and education programs.
  11. Collaborating positively with team members and supervisors.
  12. Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications include:

  1. Graduation from a recognized Care Aide Program.
  2. Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  3. Food Safe Level 1 Certificate is an asset.
  4. Previous experience in a long-term care facility is an asset.
  5. Ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care.
  6. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, and understanding verbal and written instructions.
  7. Successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check as per Provincial guidelines.
  8. Good health and physical ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand, and walk as required.
